is a voluntary, not-for-profit, industry driven Certification program providing measurement of professional competence in the practice of broadcast engineering and related media technologies.

A group of broadcast industry leaders from the networks, subscription television, technical facilities, radio, film industry and educational bodies formed a Steering Committee in 2006 to address the existing situation in which engineering and technology professionals in the media industry have no defined or industry-recognised skill development/training roadmap and no formal training program, where the Industry has no way to recognize those individuals who have gained skills, and no process for positioning new talent on a growth path.

There is strong belief in the broadcast industry that we have an engineering and media technology skills shortage which will severely impede the sector’s growth and innovation. This is true for both traditional broadcast activities (such as transmission management, design and implementation) and emerging/crossover areas such as IT infrastructure and web delivery of media.
