Inaugural ceremony marks success of MITC Assessment

Our industry is empowering the next generation of technologists through the Media Industry Technologist Certification project, and on the 23rd of October 2008 the team celebrated a major milestone.  Following the first assessment round, we have our first 28 recipients of the MITC Practitioner Television (MP-TV) and an Associate Practitioner Television (MAP-TV), so we invited them to gather and receive their certificates.

After some warm and congratulatory words from Chair of the MITC Assessment Board, Trevor Bird, we handed to each person a nicely framed certificate which REALLY looks the part.

Media Industry Technologist Certification was created to recognise existing skills within the industry, and to kick off the process which will restore the learning culture to the industry across TV, Radio, Film, New Media, Operations and Transmission. MITC is not a single-point approach, it’s a holistic system which brings together the industry (the employers), educators (the people who will deliver training), and practitioners (the people who make everything work). As MITC becomes widely accepted, it will provide roadmaps for people who want to enter the industry.

In the words of one candidate: “[MITC] gave me a chance to interact with fellow practitioners and seniors. In the future if need arises for an extra pair of hands, please feel free to drop me a line.”
